2 Step Word Problems for Grade 3 (Part 1)

Getting pupils to write down their thinking process has allowed me to identify where their struggling with. Instead of rushing to solve the problem, students should slow down and clarify their understanding, which means, be sure to know what is being asked, what you already know from the problem, and what you need to know in order to solve the question being asked.

These worksheets can be done as a small group.  Encourage students to make use of mathematical language and translate their understanding into mathematical equations.

Students can glue the worksheets into their notebooks.  Students must always go back to the original problem. Think: “What is the question I am being asked?”  Make sure that the final answer is a reasonable answer for the question you are being asked.

Multiplication Strategies Exit Tickets

I have always enjoyed using exit tickets in class.
A good exit ticket allows teachers to know whether students have a superficial or in- depth understanding of the lesson taught that day.

I created this set of exit tickets to assess pupils’ understanding on three multiplication strategies namely, making equal groups, skip counting and using repeated addition.

These quick, informal assessments can be done at the end of class to gather feedback on your teaching. You can also share your findings from the exit tickets with students at the beginning of the next lesson.
