2 Step Word Problems for Grade 3 (Part 1)

Getting pupils to write down their thinking process has allowed me to identify where their struggling with. Instead of rushing to solve the problem, students should slow down and clarify their understanding, which means, be sure to know what is being asked, what you already know from the problem, and what you need to know in order to solve the question being asked.

These worksheets can be done as a small group.  Encourage students to make use of mathematical language and translate their understanding into mathematical equations.

Students can glue the worksheets into their notebooks.  Students must always go back to the original problem. Think: “What is the question I am being asked?”  Make sure that the final answer is a reasonable answer for the question you are being asked.
